This episode continues from Chapter 11-1, where Eric, who is controlling Kara with an experimental Arion Mind Control device, has been learning that what he means by his commands and what Kara thinks he means are two very different things! After killing two people that Eric wished to only to frighten, she has now destroyed a nuclear power plant while stealing some plutonium for him.
Aurora, after hearing of the nuclear disaster on the news, has been blasted unconscious by a gigantic nuclear explosion a hundred miles above the Earth, her body tumbling off into interplanetary space. Her attempt to clean up the mess left by Kara at the reactor site had gone terribly wrong!
This chapter opens as Eric and Kara race across the Nevada desert in his van, Eric fleeing what he is certain is an impending nuclear disaster, and Kara just agreeably going along for the ride.

Eric drove his van across the open desert at speeds far greater than were safe for such a decrepit vehicle, a sick feeling in his stomach as he felt himself beginning to panic!
Yes, this super ‘bimbo’ called Supergirl had gotten him the Plutonium he had wanted, but in so doing, she had created a national disaster! Now what he really needed was someplace to relax and gather his thoughts for awhile. Not to mention a place where he could hide while tinkering with the Mind Control device while trying to make Kara a more intelligent subject.

He also realized that he didn’t have a clue where to find a place to hide in this part of southern Nevada! Against his better judgment, he decided to ask Kara for her advice, she had said something earlier about a friend’s place not far from here.

They finally reached their destination just after noon, the engine in the van beginning to rattle as the oil light came on and the temperature gage seemed to weld itself against the top of its range. They were just turning the dying van into the long winding driveway when the entire countryside was lit by a brilliant white light coming from high in the sky. It lasted for several seconds, momentarily far brighter than the noonday desert sun, the blaze rapidly fading into the most amazing colors as the entire sky seemed lit with a brilliant daytime version of the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis!
Eric felt a hollow ache in his stomach as he feared that it might have been the power plant. Yet the plant was too far away to be this bright! Besides, this explosion was far too high in the sky, almost directly over his head!
If he had believed in coincidence, he might have assumed it was some huge meteor breaking up. But he knew better, he knew that it was somehow related to what Kara had done earlier in the day! “Look, Fairchild, I’m finally completely happy for the first time in my life. I don’t have a worry in the world now that Eric is taking care of me. He knows what’s best for me, right Eric?”
Eric looked increasingly uncomfortable as he listened to Kara’s words, correctly guessing by the look on the older and taller woman’s face that this wasn’t how Kara normally talked about herself. Startled, she realized that Kara must be under this man’s control in some way, since there wasn’t even a glimmer of doubt in her face about what she was doing. At the same time, she obviously had no idea how ridiculous it sounded for a Velorian Protector to talk to another Protector this way, especially in front of a Terran!
“I’m sorry, Kara, but I won’t leave until I know what is going on here. This man has you under his control somehow, and you aren’t thinking right.“

Kara couldn’t listen to any more of this nonsense!
